ABSTRACT

Peasants perceptions of the dynamics of natural resources in the periphery of the Park W / Burkina Faso In Burkina Faso, particularly among Gourmantché, people are very dependent on natural resources. However, numerous studies have shown that the periphery of Park W is experiencing a significant degradation of vegetation cover. Indeed, most of the work that has focused on this topic in the eastern region of Burkina Faso has focused on the study of floristic composition and has shown a degradation of plant biodiversity. Issues related to the perception of changing vegetation cover has not yet been addressed. It is in the perspective of filling this void, and also to apprehend the local perceptions of the evolution of the vegetal cover on the periphery of the Park W of Burkina Faso that this study is located. Therefore, questionnaires were administered to 542 interlocutors composed of farmers, breeders, agropastors and producers of non-ligneous forest products in 11 villages bordering the park. The results obtained show that the populations are well aware of the regressive evolution of the environment as attested by the studies on the evolution of biodiversity. The Mann-Kendall test shows that only the perception of plant cover density varies with distance from the park. This testifies that in the vegetation cover is in regression in the whole periphery of the park according to the local perceptions. Therefore, a good knowledge of the causes of the degradation would make it possible to take appropriate measures to reduce the pressure on the park W of Burkina Faso. Key words: Perception, dynamic, environment, park W, Burkina Faso
