RESUME:Les plants d’alignement installés sur les trois rues de la ville de Ouidah subissent une forte pression anthropique. Certains sont brûlés ou abattus tandis que d’autres sont écorcés ou mal élagués. Or, ce sont ces plants qui égayent les rues et apportent de l’ombre en période de chaleur. La présente étude vise à évaluer la diversité des espèces plantées sur les trois tronçons et attirer l’attention des autorités municipales sur les effets néfastes des actions humaines sur les plants. A cet effet, les plants ont été inventoriés sur les trois rues. Ensuite, les mutilations subies par chaque plant ont été observées. Enfin, le Maire, le Directeur des Services Techniques de la Mairie et 90 riverains des rues ont été interviewés sur les mesures d’entretien des plantations. Des 254 plants inventoriés sur les trois rues répartis en 15 espèces, 22 % a été abattus, 11 % écorcés, 44 % ont un houppier dégradé, 8 % un houppier en forme de drapeau et 48 % un houppier normal. L’indice de diversité de Shannon du premier tronçon est de 1,15 bit, celui du deuxième est de 2,08 bits, contre 2,74 pour celui du troisième. Les valeurs de l’équitabilité de Pielou sont de 0,44 pour le premier tronçon, contre respectivement 0,69 et 0,91 pour les deux autres. Le niveau de la menace interpelle sur la nécessité de sauvegarder les plantations urbaines, en raison des multiples fonctions écologiques et utilitaires reconnues aux arbres.

Title: State of planting of three streets of the city of Ouidah (Benin)
The plants existing along the tree streets of Ouidah are threated by mankind activities. Some of them are burnt. Others are stripped or poorly pruned. These plants, as a matter of fact, brighten the streets during heat period. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diversity of planted species on the three streets and inform the local authorities on the consequences of mankind activities on the plants. For instance, the plants are inventoried on the streets, then the mutilations are observed. Eventually, the mayor, the director of technical services of the city hall and 90 people living near the streets were interviewed on the plantation maintenance. From the 240 plants inventoried on the three streets, classified in 15 species, 22 % were cut, 11 % stripped , 44% with a degraded crown, 8% with a cap-shaped crown and 48% with a normal crown. The shannon diversity index of the first section is about 1.15 bit, the second is about 2.08 bits and the third has an index of 2.47.The Pielou equitability values are of 0.44 for the first section, against 0.69 and 0.91 for both others. Considering the numerous functions (ecological, anti-pollution, shadowy etc.) of the trees, it is necessary to save the urban plantations in order to protect the environment.
