RESUME : L’objectif de cet article est d’étudier la relation entre les travaux de géographie rurale sur le Sénégal et la géographie du risque. L’analyse s’est appuyée
sur une démarche double. La première, purement statistique, a consisté à recenser les
thèses de géographie rurale sur le Sénégal, soutenues à partir de la bibliothèque
numérique UCAD et de thèses.fr. La seconde approche, plus analytique, a consisté à
leur exploitation afin de sonder leurs spécificités, notamment leur rapport aux
concepts et méthodes de la géographie du risque. Cette méthodologie démontre
l’abondance de la production scientifique, la diversité des champs disciplinaires et
des territoires étudiés. Elle établit aussi deux axes majeurs dans la relation entre
géographie rurale et géographie du risque. Le rôle précurseur et la force de la
relation entre la première génération de travaux de géographie rurale et le risque est
l’un des résultats principaux. Les travaux de géographie rurale ont, d’une certaine
façon, balisé le chemin de la géographie du risque au Sénégal. La distance
méthodologique est plus marquée avec la seconde génération pourtant
temporellement plus proche de l’approche sociospatiale du risque.

ABSTRACT:

Rural geography in Sénégal: exploration and rereading with the grid of the risk approach
The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between rural geography and
geography of risk. The analysis is based on a double approach. The first, purely
statistical, consisted in listing the rural geography theses on Senegal defended from
the digital library UCAD and theses.fr. The second approach, more analytical,
consisted in their scientific exploitation in order to probe their specificities, in
particular their relationship to the concepts and methods of geography of risk. In
addition to the abundance of scientific production, the diversity of the disciplinary
fields and the territories studied, this methodology established two major axes in the
relationship between rural geography and geography of risk: The pioneering role
and the strength of the relationship between the first generation of rural geography
work and risk is one of the main results. They have, in a way, marked the path of the
geography of risk in Senegal. The methodological distance is more prononced from
the second generation, however temporally closer to sociospatial analysis of risk.
